KABUL, 11 July 2026 (TON): Former Afghan parliamentarian Abdul Zahir Qadir has been extradited from Kenya to the United States to face charges of drug trafficking and firearms offences, according to US authorities.
US prosecutors allege that Qadir was involved in a conspiracy to import heroin and methamphetamine into the United States, along with firearms-related offences. If convicted, he could face a minimum prison sentence of 10 years and a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
Qadir's legal team has denied the allegations, maintaining that he travelled to Kenya for business purposes and was preparing to return to Afghanistan when he was arrested.
