PYONGYANG, June 9, 2026 (TON): Chinese President Xi Jinping and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un pledged to further strengthen bilateral relations during a summit in Pyongyang.
During the summit on Monday, President Xi told Kim that China aims to deepen ties with North Korea, a goal that Kim welcomed and supported.
Xi visited North Korea for the first time in seven years. Kim greeted the Chinese leader with a red carpet reception, a 21-gun salute, and a guard of honour. Xi described the occasion as marking the 65th anniversary of the friendship treaty between the neighbouring countries and said bilateral relations had reached a new stage of development.
