BEIJING, 9 July 2026 (TON): Flooding caused by Tropical Storm Maysak has killed at least 39 people in southern China, local authorities said on Thursday.
Officials said most of the deaths were linked to the failure of a flood-control embankment near Nanning, where rescue and recovery operations remain underway. Additional rainfall is forecast in some affected areas over the coming days.
Authorities said floodwaters are gradually receding, while emergency crews continue clearing debris, repairing damaged roads and restoring essential services. Electricity has already been reconnected to more than 60,000 homes, officials added.
