LONDON, June 18, 2026 (TON): The United Kingdom and India have agreed to implement their Free Trade Agreement (FTA) from July 15, 2026. The Social Security Agreement between the two countries will also come into effect on the same date.
The agreement is expected to boost the UK economy by £4.8 billion (US$6.5 billion) and increase bilateral trade over the long term.
Under the pact, India will reduce tariffs on British goods, while the United Kingdom will lower duties on a range of Indian products, including clothing, footwear, and food items.
The breakthrough came following talks between British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in France.
