NEW DELHI, INDIA, 13 June 2026 (TON): In a major top-level military shuffle, the Indian Ministry of Defence appointed Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, as the new Indian Chief of Army Staff. He will assume office on 30 June 2026 following the retirement of the current Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi. General-designate Seth will serve as Indian Army Chief until 31 August 2028.
He has commanded an armour regiment, an armoured brigade and a Counter Insurgency force in Jammu and Kashmir. As a Lieutenant General, he also commanded the Sudarshan Chakra Corps, one of the Indian Army’s top strike formations.
He also served as General Officer Commanding, Delhi area, overseeing key national and international military engagements and ceremonial responsibilities.
Lieutenant General Seth commanded the South Western Command and Southern Command, earning the rare distinction of commanding two operational Army Commands and providing strategic oversight across critical theaters for over two years.
