LONDON, 10 July, 2026 (TON): Andy Burnham has moved significantly closer to becoming the next leader of the Labour Party after receiving nominations from 322 Labour Members of Parliament.

Burnham remains the only declared candidate in the leadership race, leaving him just one nomination short of making any potential challenge mathematically impossible. Several MPs are expected to submit their backing when Parliament reconvenes.

If no additional candidates enter the contest, Burnham is expected to be confirmed as Labour leader next week and assume the office of Prime Minister on July 20.
