PARIS , 22 July 2026 (TON): France’s Parliament has approved a bill banning children under the age of 15 from using social media platforms to improve online safety and reduce exposure to harmful content.

The law is expected to take effect on September 1 and will apply to platforms including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and Snapchat. Educational websites, online encyclopedias, and scientific resources will remain exempt.

"Social media will be banned for children under 15 from the start of the new school year. It is now up to the Constitutional Council to rule, before we move on to implementation to make this measure a reality and protect our children online," French President Emmanuel Macron said on X.
