ANKARA, 11 July 2026 (TON): Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan presented engraved revolvers and ammunition to leaders attending this week's NATO summit which prompted mixed reactions among member states.
The gifts were intended to highlight Türkiye's expanding defence industry and domestic arms manufacturing capabilities. Several leaders were unable to take the firearms back to their countries because of national gun laws and security regulations.
Officials from some countries handed the gifts over to police authorities or arranged for them to be placed in museums after the summit.
