PARIS, 25 July 2026 (TON): More than 220,000 people have been evacuated as large wildfires continue to spread across France and Spain. Authorities are expanding emergency operations to control the fast moving fires.
In southwestern France, nearly 200,000 people have been evacuated, mainly from the Gironde and Landes regions. President of France Emmanuel Macron has deployed the military to support firefighters and rescue teams.
In Spain, the government declared a national emergency after three wildfires west of Madrid merged into one major blaze. Officials said the fires have burned around 15,000 hectares in the Madrid and Ávila regions.
