JERUSALEM, 12 June 2026 (TON): Mufti-e-Azam Palestine, Sheikh Mohammed Hussein was arrested on Friday while praying at Masjid Al-Aqsa at Jerusalem and was disallowed to offer prayers.

In a statement, the Israeli authorities confirmed that Israeli forces arrested Mufti Sheikh Mohammed Hussein after he delivered the Friday sermon and led prayers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem.

Authorities later released the Mufti Sheikh Mohammed Hussein after issuing an order banning him from entering the Masjid Al-Aqs compound for one week. Thousands of Muslims performed Jumma prayers in Palestinians capital Jerusalem at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. Sources confirmed on 12 July that Mufti-e-Azam Palestine, Sheikh Mohammed Hussein has been release and safe.

The Palestinian Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs said Israeli forces carried out 27 incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound since June and continuing.
