JAKARTA, 24 July 2026 (TON): Indonesia has received several cultural artefacts from the Papua region that were illegally taken to the United States, marking an important step in protecting the country's cultural heritage.
The artefacts were handed over during a meeting between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and FBI Director Kash Patel in Jakarta. Indonesian officials said the return reflects stronger cooperation between the two countries in recovering stolen cultural property.
The artefacts belong to the Dani and Asmat tribes and the Lake Sentani communities. Culture Minister Fadli Zon said the return helps restore Indonesia's cultural sovereignty, and the items will be displayed at the National Museum.
