WASHINGTON D.C. June 29, 2026 (TON): Three firefighters were killed and two others were injured while battling a wildfire near the Colorado-Utah border, where dry weather, strong winds and high temperatures fueled the rapidly spreading blaze.
Authorities said the firefighters were responding to the wildfire when they were caught in dangerous conditions. Their identities have not yet been released.
Officials in Colorado and Utah declared states of emergency and deployed additional resources to contain the fire. Evacuation orders have been issued for several communities, while authorities warned that dangerous fire conditions are expected to persist across parts of the western United States.
